Runswick Bay is a mixture of sand and rocks and is located approximately 9 miles north of Whitby and is regarded by many as one of the most attractive beaches on the Yorkshire coast. It is ideal for making sandcastles, beach games and rook pooling. During the winter months the beach is popular for fossil hunters and you can often see seals.
The bay is popular with canoeists and other water-sport enthusiasts including surfers when the conditions are right.
A former fishing village, Runswick village is nestled under the cliffs at the top end of the beach. Their are no cars allowed in the village.
There are a number of hotel options available nearby including the Runswick Bay Hotel and the Royal Hotel.
Runswick Bay beach is dog-friendly and there are no restrictions at any time of the year.
