Holme next the Sea Norfolk has an expansive sandy beach lined with salt marsh and dunes. At high tide however a lot of it is covered. It is accessed by a path that travels through the Hunstanton Links golf course.
Dogs are permitted on the beach all year long. They do need to be kept under control as the walk on the beach between Holme and Old Hunstanton is a favourite dog walking stretch for many.
Holme next the sea village is a small village located within the North Norfolk Heritage Coast and a designated area of natural beauty. Many of the houses can be seen clad in cobbles in a variety of patterns. Its position on the North Sea coast makes it a prime site for migratory birds in autumn. It is neighboured by two adjoining nature reserves, one owned by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust and the other by the Norfolk Ornithological Association. Many holiday makers return to stay in this part of the Nolfolk coast year after year, for their summer holiday, weekend breaks or even at Christmas. For a beach holiday with style and natural beauty Holme has a lot to offer. The village is popular with horse riders who can often be seen around the beach. Due to the location it shares with neighbouring Hunstanton wonderful sunsets over the sea can be seen from the beach.
The Norfolk coast has an abundance of lovely beaches in the area of Holme next the sea to visit. Travel along the coast road by car or bus in either direction, East or West and you will find the beaches of Old Hunstanton, Holkam, Titchwell and Wells. It makes for a great choice if you love a beach Holiday.
The Norfolk Coast path runs from Hunstanton through Holme to Sea Palling. It is very popular with walkers and goes through areas of outstanding natural beauty.
There are numerous friendly holiday cottages, both old and new property to book for your holiday in Holme. Not far away there is also a selection of camping and glamping sites where a friendly welcome awaits. The White Horse pub also has a caravan park.
The White Horse is an old traditional Pub which has been welcoming visitors for centuriesThis coastal pub is popular with walkers, holidaymakers, families and their dogs. It has a menu to suit all. In summer you can enjoy the Beer gardens and in winter choose indoors with a welcoming log fire. It also has its own caravan park.
Along the coastal road and local there are also numerous eating and takeaway options for holiday makers.
Neighbouring village,Titchwell is well known as the home of RSPB Titchwell, the renowned reserve found at Titchwell Marsh. Often in the news, it has reed beds, salt marshes and a freshwater lagoon. Beside the beach and surrounded by woodland the reserve has nature trails, a car park and a visitors centre. as well as the beach. For bird watchers it is something not to be missed. The reserve is open all year and access is free. The main part of the reserve is accessed from the visitor centre using the west bank footpath.
In the churchyard there are many graves of members of the Nelson family, who at one point lived at Holme House. The Holme-next-the-Sea branch of the family was descended from the elder son of Edmund Nelson of Wendling, Norfolk, whilst the Admiral was descended from his younger son. The main church building was demolished and rebuilt in 1888, although some memorials and an ancient stone font survive from the earlier structure. The church has a peal of five bells which are still rung, the earliest is dated 1677
Holme next the Sea is located on the A149 North Norfolk Coast Road. There is a local bus service that travels the coastal road and joins with Kings Lynn.
