There are a number of great beaches in Essex worth visiting. Today we feature our top ten.
Southend on Sea Beach benefits from seven miles of sandy beaches including three blue flag beaches and seven quality coast awards.
Jaywick is a coastal village two miles west of Clacton-on-Sea, 60 miles from London and 17 miles from Colchester.
This stretch of the coastline features a number of Martello towers. These small round forts were built during the 19th century to defend against attack from across the English Channel.
Four miles up the from Clacton, Holland-on-Sea is less developed part of the Essex coast. It offers visitors a quiet alternative to the busier Clacton and is perfect for long walks.
Brightlingsea is a flat sandy beach with a promenade lined with bright beach huts. Known originally for fishing and shipbuilding, the beach is popular for yachting.
Thorpe Bay Beach is best recognised for its picture-postcard beach huts and is ideal for people who want to escape the busier beaches nearby.
Clacton beach has wonderful stretch of clean golden sand making it popular with families and also benefits from easy parking and lots of local amenities.
Walk along the beach and appreciate views of the Kent coast while at the rear of the beach there is a large grassy area with a play park. The beach also has no dog restrictions.
